Itinerary

Depart in the morning to explore the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the city's most famous attractions, accommodating up to 20,000 worshippers. Take a look inside this unique Islamic architectural marvel. Continue to the Royal Opera House, a jewel of the Gulf, for an exterior visit. This building elegantly combines traditional and contemporary Arab-Islamic design. (Interior visits are possible.) Proceed to the picturesque Muttrah Corniche, known for its long history of trade and fishing, and visit the charming and authentic Muttrah Souk. After lunch at a local restaurant, head to the Old Muscat and discover the Bait al Zubair Museum, which houses one of the country's largest permanent heritage and art collections, offering a window into Oman's rich heritage and culture. End your day with a visit to Al Alam Palace, the Sultan's Palace. Overlooking the waterfront, the palace is flanked by two forts from the Portuguese era in the 16th century. The Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts represent the country's military architecture. Perched on the rocks, these forts dominate the sparkling blue waters of the Sea of Oman. (Photo stop). Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Muscat.

Travel to Nizwa, about 1 hour 50-minutes drive from Muscat. Begin with a visit to the Nizwa Souk, known for its centuries-old tradition of selling pottery, spices, dates, and handicrafts. Next, explore the 17th-century Nizwa Fort, notable for its round tower and intricate design. After lunch, continue to Bahla, famous for its pottery and myths, and home to Oman’s largest fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your day concludes with a visit to Jabreen Castle, a striking example of Oman’s defensive and residential architecture. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Nizwa.

After breakfast, visit Al Hamra, a 400-year-old abandoned village surrounded by lush date palms. At the Bait Al Safa Museum, discover traditional Omani life as local women demonstrate how they made coffee, bread, and pottery. Continue to the scenic village of Misfat Al Abryeen, known for its ancient stone houses and terraced agriculture. After lunch, ascend Jebel Shams, the "Mountain of the Sun," Oman’s highest peak at 3,009 meters, where you'll witness the spectacular Grand Canyon of Arabia. Return to Nizwa for dinner and an overnight stay.

Head to Birkat Al Mauz, a well-known ruined village with banana plantations and an ancient irrigation system listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then, explore Al Manzifat, a demolished village with narrow alleys. After lunch, continue to the vast desert of Wahiba Sands. Upon arrival, check in at your camp before embarking on a thrilling 4x4 dune-bashing experience. Enjoy the mesmerizing sunset atop a dune before concluding your day with dinner and relaxation at the camp. Overnight in Wahiba Sands.

Leave the desert for the scenic Wadi Bani Khaled, one of Oman’s most popular oases. Enjoy swimming in the turquoise pools or relaxing in the sun before having lunch. Continue to the coastal city of Sur, once a major trading port with East Africa. Visit the traditional dhow shipyard and take in the panoramic views from the Al Ayjah Lighthouse. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Sur.

Depart from your hotel and head to Wadi Tiwi, one of Oman’s most beautiful valleys, with green-blue pools surrounded by palm trees. Then, visit Wadi Shab, where a short boat ride leads to a 45-minute hike through the stunning gorge. A rewarding swim awaits you in the emerald pools at the end of your hike. After lunch, stop by the Bimmah Sinkhole, a natural sinkhole filled with seawater. Your day ends in Quriyat, a coastal fishing village with a rich history. Return to Muscat at the end of the day.
