Itinerary

Start your day with an exploration of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the city’s most renowned landmarks, capable of accommodating up to 20,000 worshippers. Take a look inside this grand Islamicarchitectural wonder, a true masterpiece of refined and understated elegance. (Please note: A dress code is required when visiting the mosque—women must wear clothing that covers the ankles and wrists and must also cover their heads with a scarf. Men should wear trousers and a long-sleeved shirt or T-shirt. The mosque is closed to visitors on Fridays.)

Continue your tour with a visit to the exterior of the Royal Opera House, a gem of the Gulf region. This structure is a sophisticated blend of traditional Arab-Islamic and contemporary design. It is a complex musical venue and a visual marvel. The opera house hosts a variety of regional performances from September to May, and visits are available from Saturday to Thursday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. (Visits to the interior of the opera house are possible.)

Proceed to the picturesque Muttrah Corniche, known for its long history of trade and fishing, to reach the souk. The Muttrah Souk is full of charm and authentic flavors where you can explore shops selling antiques, textiles, jewelry, and weapons. The scents of incense, sandalwood, and spices make it a unique place.

Drive through Old Muscat and discover the Bait the Bait Al Zubair Museum, which today houses one of the largest permanent collections of Omani heritage and art, offering a genuine window into the rich heritage and culture of Oman.

Continue to Al Alam Palace, the Sultan's residence. Although the palace is not open to the public, its surroundings provide a picturesque backdrop, capturing the essence of Omani royalty. Overlooking the waterfront, the palace is flanked by two forts dating back to the Portuguese era in the 16th century. The Al Jalali and Al Mirani Forts are representative of the country's military architecture. Perched on the rocks, these forts dominate the sparkling blue waters of the Gulf of Oman. (Photo stop.)
