Itinerary

In the morning, embark on a journey from Muscat to Nizwa, a drive of approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes covering 155 km. Begin your exploration with a visit to the bustling Nizwa Souk, a historic market teeming with a diverse array of crafts, spices, dates, silverware, livestock, and pottery. If it’s a Friday, arrive early to witness the lively livestock auction, a unique cultural experience. Adjacent to the souk stands the iconic Nizwa Fort, built in the 17th century. This fortress, with its distinctive circular tower and intricate network of corridors and compartments, offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. Afterward, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Jabreen Castle. This stunning castle, both a defensive bastion and the Imam’s residence, is renowned for its beautiful architecture and detailed ceilings. Your day concludes with a visit to Bahla, a town steeped in myths and legends and known for its pottery. The UNESCO-listed Bahla Fort, dating back to the third millennium BCE, is a must-see landmark. After a photo stop at the fort, head to your hotel in Nizwa for check-in and a restful overnight stay.

After breakfast at the hotel, set off to explore the historic village of Al Hamra. This ancient settlement, over 400 years old, features abandoned houses and a verdant palm grove, offering a glimpse into traditional Omani life. Visit Bait Al Safa, a living museum in Al Hamra, where you can learn about the customs and traditions of Oman. Continue your journey to Misfat Al Abriyeen, a picturesque village perched at 900 meters above sea level in the mountains. Here, take a leisurely walk through the village, known for its ancient stone houses and terraced agriculture. Observe the traditional irrigation system, or "Falaj," which has been in use for millennia. After enjoying the serene and charming atmosphere, have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, make your way back to Muscat, concluding your enriching two-day journey through the cultural and historical landscapes of Nizwa and its surrounding areas.
